Pederson takes 54th at State Golf Tourney
Karson Pederson, a sophomore at Watford City High School, ended her golf season in a four-way tie for 54th place at the State Class B Girls Golf Tournament.
Girls 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams win State
Watford City’s relay teams turned in outstanding performances at the State Track and Field Meet in Bismarck last Friday and Saturday as the girls 1,600 and 3,200 meter relay teams captured first place finishes for the Wolves, while the girls 800 meter relay team took third place. In the boys division, Watford City’s 3,200 meter relay team took second place while the boys 1,600 meter relay team took fourth place.
Wolves fall to Minot Ryan in Region baseball action
In spite of being a first-year team, Watford City had high hopes of making it to the State Class B Baseball Tournament this year. And the Wolves very nearly saw their dreams come true as they worked their way through the Region 7 Tournament before falling in the title game to Minot Bishop Ryan 5-4.
Watford sweeps Region 7 Track Meet
Watford City made it a clean sweep at the Region 7 Track Meet on Saturday as both the boys and girls team ran away from the competition to emerge as regional champions.
Karson Pederson earned the right to advance to the State B Girls Golf Tournament with a second place finish at the Region 6 Golf Tournament on May 6.
Watford City to host Region Track Meet on Saturday
It may have taken longer than either Dave Dougherty or Greg Brown wanted, but with bright sunny skies and warm temperatures last week, Watford City runners finally had their chance to qualify for the State Class B Track Meet.
With wins over New Town and Williston Trinity Christian last week, Watford City will be advancing to the Region 7 Tournament as the No. 3 seed.
Wolves boys advance to Region Golf Tourney
Watford City’s boys varsity golf team wrapped up its regular season action this past week competing at the Washburn Invitational on Saturday and the NW Conference Meet on Monday in Mohall.
Girls varsity golfers take 5th at Stanley
Playing with a limited squad, Watford City’s girls varsity golf team took fifth place with a score of 447 at the Stanley Invitational last Friday afternoon. Kenmare won the meet with a score of 365.
Wolves have good showing at New Salem
Watford City athletes again had to struggle against strong winds on Saturday as the Wolves competed at the New Salem Track Meet at the Bismarck Community Bowl. “I feel our team ran extremely well in the meet,” stated Greg Brown, girls’ head coach.
Liebel earns spot at State Golf Tourney
Watford City’s Nick Liebel carded a seven over par, 79, to earn the right to advance to the State Class B Boys Golf Tournament during last Friday’s State Qualifying Tournament at the Watford City Golf Course.
Watford girl golfers win Ray Invitational
Watford City’s varsity girls golf team finished in first place at the Ray Invitational State Qualifier on Friday, May 1. “I am pleasantly surprised with the win,” stated LeRoy Bettenhausen, girls head coach. “The ladies had a super team effort playing in cool, damp weather conditions this week.”
Wolves run away from competition at Rotary Meet
A cool, wet spring has definitely made the high school track season much more complicated this year as the dates of several meets this past week were changed because of inclement weather. But in spite of poor conditions, Watford City’s track teams are continuing to make big improvements in their performances.

Watford to host Rotary Track Meet Saturday
The Watford City varsity boys and girls track teams opened their seasons on Tuesday, April 14 at the Mohall Track Meet, which was held at Minot State University. The Wolves’ girls team took third place with 85 points, while the boys team took fourth place with 95 points.

Track season begins
With this winter’s record snowfall and the late arrival of spring due to cold, wet temperatures, it may have seemed like track season was never going to happen in North Dakota. But at long last, Watford City’s boys and girls track teams are finally starting their competitive season as the Wolves will compete in the Mohall Invitational at Minot State University on Friday.

And after a snowy, wet spring the wait for the start of spring high school baseball is just about over for the Wolves as Watford City welcomes Des Lac/Burlington to town for a double header on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Wolves named to post season football teams
Three Watford City football players, Justin Flatland, Jacob Quale and Kevin Sanford have been selected by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association to play on the 11 Man West Team in the 36th annual 2009 Shrine Bowl.
Two McKenzie County basketball players, Kevin Sanford and Devin Yellow Wolf, have been selected by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportswriters and Sportsbroadcasters to the 2009 Class B All-State boys basketball team.
Wolves take 5th at State Basketball Tournament
The Watford City boys basketball team closed out its 2008-2009 campaign on a high note as the Wolves defeated the Bowman Bulldogs 62-46 in the consolation championship game of the State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament at the Minot State Dome on Saturday afternoon. Although Bowman got off to an early lead, Watford City's smothering defense and high powered offense soon tamed the Bulldogs.
