A Watford City man was taken into custody Tuesday evening following a reported domestic violence incident that prompted a multi-agency law enforcement response and temporary evacuations in a residential area.

At approximately 7:10 p.m., officers with the Watford City Police Department, along with deputies from the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a report of domestic violence at 1605 Opal Avenue, Unit 2. According to authorities, a victim contacted 911 dispatchers alleging that Tyler Scott Reese, 37, had assaulted her. Four juvenile children were reported to be inside the residence at the time of the incident.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers safely evacuated the victim and the children from the apartment. During the initial investigation, law enforcement learned that Reese had allegedly been consuming alcohol and an unknown substance throughout the day. Authorities were also informed that Reese had barricaded himself inside a bedroom after becoming aware that emergency services had been contacted.

Adding to the seriousness of the situation, the victim advised officers that a shotgun was present inside the residence. As a result, law enforcement quickly established a secure perimeter around the apartment and began issuing verbal commands for Reese to exit.
