More sporting goods, clothes, parking…jobs? Say less. In a recent release from Runnings, the retailer announced a move, and resultant expansion of its inventory, to 905 Main Street S. According to the release, the move represents a significant upgrade that will directly benefit local shoppers and job seekers alike.

One of the main advantages of the move is the sheer amount of space. The new location spans 65,388 square feet, which fundamentally changes what the store can offer the community. For anyone who has had to squeeze into tight parking spots on a busy afternoon, the addition of expanded parking at the new site is an immediate win for local shoppers.

Inside, the extra floor space translates into more variety. Instead of making do with a limited selection or ordering online and waiting for delivery, locals will have immediate access to a much larger inventory of sporting goods, clothing, footwear, and pet and farm supplies. According to the company, consumers in the region will therefore have more choices for their home, work, or recreational needs.

Beyond better shopping, the expansion is a positive note for the local economy and workforce. Right now, the store on 6th Avenue SE runs smoothly thanks to 24 full- and part-time employees. Runnings has confirmed that this entire original crew is moving over to the Main Street South building, keeping that familiar local expertise intact.

But a building of this size requires more hands to keep it running. The company has announced plans to kick off a fresh wave of local hiring as operations ramp up at the new location. For Watford City, these upcoming jobs mean new opportunities for residents looking for steady employment closer to home: “We’re excited to continue serving Watford City and to expand our selection of products and brands to meet the growing demand from our customers, while providing a better shopping experience,” said Brian Odegaard, CEO and President of Runnings.
