The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office will provide law enforcement assistance to neighboring Billings County during the upcoming Independence Day holiday period and activities associated with the highly anticipated opening events surrounding the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library and America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

Questions surrounding the commitment of personnel, potential costs, and impacts on McKenzie County resources and emergency response were raised following recent discussions during a McKenzie County commission meeting and by concerned residents since the disclosure that added concern about shift coverage, response delays, short staffing, and ample and adequate coverage back here.

According to information provided by McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Terri Northrup, the sheriff’s office will assign 12 deputies to support operations in Billings County during the event period. That timeframe was not disclosed but other information sources in Billings County and itinerary for the library opening show at least five to seven days of anticipated impacts to the small community.
