Law enforcement leaders from across North Dakota gathered in Watford City last week as the North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association held its 2026 Chiefs Conference, marking the first time the organization’s annual conference has been hosted in the community.

While the association has existed for decades, this year’s gathering represented only the fifth Chiefs Conference organized by the North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association, making the event a milestone both for the organization and for the host city.

Hosted by the Watford City Police Department at the Rough Rider Center from June 21-24, the conference was the culmination of nearly a year of planning by department staff working alongside the executive committee of the North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association.

Approximately 43 law enforcement leaders and attendees, 15 vendors and sponsors, 10 award recipients, numerous guest speakers, and additional community guests participated throughout the four-day event.
