We had a busy week going to three different meets with athletes. The weather still hasn’t been the best, but the guys are still working hard and competing. They are very motivated to improve their marks.
Junior Alvarez punched his ticket to the state meet by qualifying in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41:48, which is now our top 300 hurdle qualifier on the team out of the three that have qualified. It was also only his second time running the race.
Junior runs hard every time he steps on the track in practice or at the meet and does all the things that he needs to do to be a good track athlete. I am very excited for him.
He ran the 110 hurdles for the first time at the varsity height and is not far from qualifying those as well.
We have 11 guys qualified for the state meet in nine different events. We have a home meet on Tuesday May 5, we are at Dickinson on May 8, and then Monday May 11, we split the team and take the Seniors and Juniors to the Last Chance meet in Mandan, while the freshman and sophomores go to the WDA Freshman/Sophomore meet in Minot. The Region meet is in Dickinson on May 15.
