Marlene H. Sax

Our Mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Marlene H. Sax made her journey home on Friday evening, Aug. 5, 2016. Mom passed away in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Mom was born in Crookston, Minn., on May 2, 1937, to Pearl and James G. Hitchcock.
She married our father, Sherwin D. Sax on Oct. 17, 1956; they raised five children together.
Mom enjoyed the time on the farm, where we grew up learning how to garden, bottle feed calves and milk cows. Once Mom climbed the fence, milked a cow and then went into town and delivered a baby two hours later!
When Mom was 40 years old, she went to Moler Barber College in Fargo, N.D. and then barbered in Watford City, N.D. Mother developed long lasting friendships over her 35 years of cutting hair.
She loved reading, opera, (especially Pavarotti and Bocelli), visiting with her children and grandchildren and a good political debate!
She was quite involved with the community and served on the planning committee for the city of Watford City and volunteered her service for the North Dakota Republican Party.
Mom recently moved to Louisiana and lived with her daughter, Carla, who provided fantastic care as she aged.
Survived by her five children;  Mark (Melinda) Sax, Patricia Sax, Glenn (Trenace) Sax, Carla Dickerson, Laura Sax, and numerous grandchildren and great grand children.
Mom’s wish was to have her body donated to science; she is now with the Louisiana State University Medical Sciences Department. We will have a small family memorial and release her ashes to the wind at a later date.
