Bruce Berget

Longtime Alaska resident Bruce Baxter Berget, 80, died on Jan. 5, 2024, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska.
Bruce was born on Nov. 14, 1943, in Bottineau, N.D., to Olaf and Pearl (Stompro) Berget. He graduated from high school in Watford City, N.D. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having been honorably discharged after serving in the Vietnam War.
He moved to Alaska in 1970, after which he received his bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His career in Alaska ranged from working as a computer technician with Husky Oil, to helping people as a case worker in Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services.
Travel was his lifelong interest, having taken his family on many road trips across the U.S. and Canada, as well as traveling overseas in Norway, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. He was also an avid carpenter, having built a cabin and two houses with his own two hands.
Bruce was a lifelong Christian, and a member of Anchor Park United Methodist Church in Anchorage. His family wrote, “As a brother, a father, a man of great humor and connoisseur of the daddest of dad jokes, he will be greatly missed.”
He is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Nathaniel Berget of Anchorage, and Nicholas Berget and Tumenjargal Tungaa of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; two grandchildren, Alexander and Nissa; and sister and brother-in-law, Elaine Hanna and Brooks Hanna.
A celebration of life gathering was held on Sat., Jan. 20, 2024, at Chilkoot Charlie’s in Anchorage.
The family asks that donations be made to helping veterans via the Gary Sinise Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
