Low water level raises concern at Tobacco Gardens

Low water level raises concern at Tobacco Gardens

Lake Sakakawea’s water level is low and it’s not projected to get any better before the summer season of fishing, water sailing, skiing, and general escape from the summer heat arrives for many of the area.
This fact has gotten the attention of officials in preparation for the warm season water activities and bringing a low water boat ramp into service until conditions improve to return use of the established ramps at Tobacco Gardens Resort & Marina.

The effort requires additional work for ample vehicle access and parking and McKenzie County’s road superintendent intends to lend a hand in clearing away a swath of tree encroachment and improving the driving surface to make it happen.

The low water ramp will be positioned to the far north of the Tobacco Gardens Resort and camping areas. The road access, commonly used in winter for ice fishing, is in a public right of way that has about 900 feet of road that has become a narrow trail with a thicket of Chinese Elm trees taking over the road base. The county will clear that to widen the road back to its original width and continue to the shoreline to provide parking and ramp access.
