On Monday, April 22, there was a grass fire that started off of 134th street, south of Arnegard. According to Rick Schrieber, the Arnegard District Fire Chief, they received the call at 5:27 p.m. At the time, the winds were gusting to around 45 mph and he stated that the fire was moving quickly to the southeast.
“We had 5 units that responded along with 10 firefighters. Due to the fact that the fire was running very, very fast I decided to call for mutual aid from Watford City. The WCFD sent two additional grass units along with 5 firefighters,” said Schrieber. “We got it knocked down and mopped up rather quickly.”
He said that deputies from the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance by relaying where the fire was on the eastern side of the fire. This was necessary because the wind made it impossible for the firefighters to see that area clearly.
