Fatal head-on collision on CR 10
Clay Youngbird, from Sidney Mont., died on June 7, in a head-on collision on County Road 10, 14 miles north-west of Watford City.
Around 6:40 a.m., near 132nd Ave. NW, a 2006 Kia Optima driven by Youngbird, which was traveling west, entered the east-bound lane. Heading east, a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado swerved to the left, into the west-bound lane, to avoid the Kia that was heading the wrong direction in his lane. The Kia suddenly swerved back into the west-bound lane, hitting the Silverado head-on. The Kia then entered the northern ditch and rolled.
The driver of the Silverado was wearing his seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.
Youngbird was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
North Dakota Highway Patrol, McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, Arnegard Fire Department, Arnegard Quick Response Unit, and McKenzie County Ambulance all responded to the scene.
