As the sun finally begins to melt away the remnants of winter, uncovering a season’s worth of accumulated debris, the students of Watford City High School are preparing to trade their textbooks for trash bags. On Wednesday, May 6, the school will host its spring Community Clean-Up, a tradition now in its sixth year that mobilizes the entire student body and staff to refresh the town they call home.

The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., is designed as a visible “thank you” to the local businesses and residents who support the Watford City Wolves throughout the year.

This year’s efforts are spearheaded by Student Council co-secretary Abby Ryberg and committee chair Kamri Hodges, both 17-year-old juniors who have been involved with the program since they entered high school. “I absolutely love this community,” said Ryberg. “I recognize all the ways in which community members support our school and activities, so being able to give back is something that I always want to take part in.” For Hodges, the event is about more than just aesthetics; it is about stewardship. “Since we are so fortunate to be involved in our amazing education system and be so well supported by community members, it is the least we can do to give back,” Hodges noted.
