When you hear terms like “Cryptocurrency” or “Digital assets”, does your head spin? I’m a curious person by nature, but this relatively new technology can be a challenge to understand. I’ve discovered that the younger you are, the more “Fin-Tech” savvy you’re likely to be. So I’m on a mission to smarten up about “Stablecoins” and other emerging financial options.
In a recent chat with Don Morgan, President and CEO of the Bank of North Dakota, we talked about an important question that the financial world is wrestling with: Can the United States lead the digital payments revolution without weakening safeguards that make our system trusted? If we get it right America, and places like North Dakota, will help shape the future of finance.
Too often this conversation gets framed as a choice: move fast and innovate, or slow down and protect consumers. That’s a false choice. We’ve never built anything lasting in this country by picking one over the other. Our financial system became the gold standard because we insisted on both.
And now the ground is shifting. Payment systems globally are moving toward faster, blockchain-based infrastructure. Other countries aren’t waiting around. If we hesitate or overcorrect, we risk handing leadership to others who are more than willing to define the rules of the road.
