PATRICE'S PERSPECTIVE

Hello friends, I know that it has been a long while since I have published my column. Recently, some readers have demanded an answer as to why. One reader pointed out that my last column was approximately three months after my predecessor left, and they would be correct.
I feel it is important to understand the reasons why I have not written my column for such a long period of time, not necessarily as an excuse, but to answer the direct questions that I have received.
Life happens to all of us, and we at The Farmer are not immune to any of the curve balls that life can throw at us in any given moment. The editor of this paper included.
Last fall, as my predecessor was handing over the reigns, my mother went in for her regular “you are 65” check up. From that check up, her amazing care physician from McKenzie Health detected something that required further exploration. From there, we went to Sanford and long story short, she was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. Her prognosis was grim.
