EPA pipe survey to be conducted for McKenzie County residents

A grant was recently received by the McKenzie County Rural Water District (MCRWD) that will be used to pay for an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program, to survey customers on the pipes used within their homes.
As part of a new EPA regulation, there must be an inventory, or survey done, on all MCRWD customers to account for all of the service line materials throughout the system.
Director of the MCRWD, Scott Perkins, explained at a recent Board of McKenzie County Commissioners meeting, “It seems wildly intrusive that I should be concerned about what plumbing you have in your house; my job should stop at the meter. I have spent the last 28 years stopping at the meter, and now the EPA says that we have to go past that and be concerned with your plumbing, and it is all to keep you safe from lead contamination.”
