Bolken explains tourism in McKenzie County

Doug Bolken, head of tourism for Watford City and McKenzie County, describes his job as “the PR arm welcoming new visitors to the area.”
His passion for all things local was on full display when he described some of the area amenities to What’s On Your Mind (AM1100/FM92.3) host, Scott Hennan. “My goal is always to portray Watford City and McKenzie County as a place to visit…It’s a big surprise to people when they come out west, especially if they haven’t been out here for a while. As you know, we’ve changed dramatically in the last 10 years, and continued to change in the last five years with new [facilities] like the Rough Rider Event Center and now the McKenzie County Ag Expo, new schools, a hospital, and whatnot.”
Bolken explained that all of these changes are part of the Quality of Life initiative that has been implemented not only on the tourism side of things, but on the economic development side of the coin as well.
