Wolves get by Killdeer 57-47

Watford City’s varsity boys basketball team got back into the winning column last Thursday as the Wolves edged the Killdeer Cowboys, 57-47. With the win, the Wolves improved their season record to 3-5 and hope to build on that record. The next action for Watford City will be at 7:30 p.m. when the Wolves take on the Divide County Maroons on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Williston State College Well.

The Wolves had three players score in double figures last Thursday as Watford City edged the Killdeer Cowboys, 57-47.
Watford City got off to a strong start in the first quarter outscoring the Cowboys, 17-7, with that 10-point advantage ending up being the winning margin in the game. Both teams traded baskets throughout the next two quarters with Watford City upping its lead to 12 points, 27-15, at halftime.
Neither team was able to dominate play in the second half of action as the Wolves built a 14-point, 40-26, advantage at the end of three quarters of play with the Cowboys outscoring the Wolves, 21-17, in the final eight minutes of play.
Michael Schulz led the Wolves in scoring with 14 points, while Reid Brown and Tyler Bates netted 12 and 11 points, respectively in the winning effort.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Dustin Kleppen and Cole Rolfsrud with eight points each, while Mitchell Liebel chipped in four points.
