Watford City’s track teams had very good showings at two meets this past week as the boys team took seventh and 10th at the Dickinson and Mandan, while the girls team took third at Dickinson and fifth at Mandan.
At Dickinson, Waddel Shakespeare took first place in the 100 meter dash, while Dakota Cluchie took second place in the 200 meter dash to pace the boys team. In the girls division, Hayley Ogle and Kyley Barnett finished in the top two spots in the 100 meter dash, while Ogle also won the 400 meter dash and Katie Olson took first in the 1,600 meter run to lead the girls team.
At the Mandan Meet, which had all but one of the WDA teams competing, Watford City’s boys 400 meter relay team took fifth place and just missed a state qualifying time.
“We were finally able to put our 400 relay together with our top four sprinters to see what it could do,” stated Dave Gumke, boys head coach. “We ran very close to qualifying with a 45.91.”
In the girls division, Jaelyn Ogle took first in the 1,600 meter run, while Kyley Barnett took first in the 300 meter hurdles.
