Last Tuesday night, Watford City traveled to Beulah to take on the No. 5 team in the state. The Wolves were unable to slow down the high-powered Beulah offense as the Miners picked up their sixth win in a row.
“Beulah is a top five team in the state,” said Watford City head coach, Justin Hager. “That is where we want to be at some point down the road building this program. They shot 50 percent from three-point range, making 14 of 28 attempts.” Brothers Braylen and Benny Schirado combined for 48 of Beulah’s 84 total points.
“They have really good players and are balanced,” continued Coach Hager. “We were down five points with five minutes left in the second. We lost two guys for open threes, had a bad turnover, now it’s an 8-0 run in a matter of two minutes. That’s how fast things can turn. Against good teams you have to play every possession and execute the game plan. We can’t afford to take a possession off and give up offensive rebounds and kick out threes. Those are daggers for you mentally.”
There were some positive elements to this game for the Wolves, especially on offense. The 53 points were the most Beulah’s defense have allowed in a Region game this year and the Wolves were only the third team to score more than 45 points against the Miners through their first 11 games. The Wolves shot 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.
