The Williston course is considered a difficult course, because of the long gradual hills along with a tough hill in mile one and three.
Runners usually don’t run their best times, but is a good course for the training. There was wind and it was a little warm as well. The highlight of the meet was watching Dehico Bocanegra Tovar run with the top runners throughout the race and finish 4th place.
He is now getting ahead of runners that he has not been ahead of in the past. “Dehico is very dedicated to his workouts and is always setting new goals each week to improve his time and placing at meets. He has a goal to get under sixteen minutes, which will give him a chance to make the Nike Cross Regionals Championship race on Nov. 9, after the season,” said Coach David Gumke.
Camryn Wagenecht ran very well in the 6th grade one-mile race to place second and only three seconds behind the winner from Mandan.
The 6th grade girls came away with a 3rd place team finish because of their efforts. They have had a very good season thus far.
The next meet will be a 3K Race in Killdeer, on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The middle school runners will then travel to Bismarck on Friday, Oct. 17, for the Middle School Championships.
The Wolves have about 10 days to continue training with the varsity girls and boys teams for the State Meet held on Oct. 25, at Parkhurst Recreation Area in Jamestown.
