WC runners enhance skills at Becky Wells Invite and Border Battle

Cross Country Results from the Becky Wells invite Saturday, Sept. 18, at Paterson Lake in Dickinson.
The venue was moved from the Heart River Golf Course to Patterson Lake Recreation Area, due to the amount of rain the golf course received the night before and what was expected the next day. When runners run on a soaked golf course it tends to trample grass down. It was a great day to run though, with the cool overcast conditions, perfect running weather, and it showed in the athletes’ times. “We had many personal records broken by our athletes today. They all ran with much improved effort and determination. This meet will give us a lot of confidence going into the rest of our season and help us continue running fast and competing well,” said Coach David Gumke.

Dehico Bocanegra Tovar had a very good race. He ran with Williston’s number-one runner, who is a top runner in the state for most of the race. He fell to fourth place during the third mile, but made a comeback to finish in 2nd place with a personal best time of 16:17.97. That time puts him as number one on the Wolves all-time 5K list, since the team has been using athletic.net. James Odenbach and Judah Mitchell also ran well today. Newcomer, Jayden Suek, fit right and ran a good first 5K time of his career. Number 2 through 5 runners ran close together, but need to bring it even closer and work hard together to get up toward the front. It is very exciting to have five guys this meet to give us a team score.
