The Watford City girls track team ran away from the competition as the Wolves won the Northwest Conference Track Meet in Watford City last Thursday and the Sakakawea Country Classic at Hazen on Saturday.
“We had many athletes qualify in the last week and we are hoping for good things to happen this week,” stated Greg Brown, girls’ head coach. “We have Regions on Saturday and the athletes are ready. The Northwest Conference Meet was as close to seeing how the Region Meet might turn out, and I thought our girls looked very good against the competition.”
Watford City’s boys team, with several individuals unable to compete because of injuries, didn’t fare  well as the Wolves took fourth at the Northwest Conference Meet and fifth at the Sakakawea Country Classic.
“Guy Ross was having a very good meet on Tuesday as well as a very good year in his events,” stated Dave Gumke, boys head coach. “During the last 50 meters, while on his way to winning the 800 meter run, he pulled a muscle and had to drop out of the race. The injury will take him out for the rest of the season.  He will be missed on the relays and in his individual events.”
This week, the Wolves will be competing in the Regional Track Meet in Tioga. The top three place finishers in each of the regional events will automatically qualify for the State Class B Track Meet.
