Zane Wagoner seeded 3rd,
Finished Runner Up
Seeding this bracket was a nightmare and took us coaches over an hour. Most still feel like it was incorrect, but that was of no concern to Zane. He had something to prove. After picking up a first period pin in the round of 16, he wrestled Luke Conroy of Fargo Davies.
A kid who pinned Zane at Rumble on the Red and sent him home without a placement. This match would go much differently. After running up a 9-0 score Zane would pin Luke late in the second period. In the semi finals he would face another opponent Zane was 0-1 against Colin Fleck of Saint Mary’s. Fleck pinned Zane at the Bismarck Rotary. Once again with a chip on his shoulder Zane would win in dominant 17-6 major decision scoring 5 takedowns.
In the State finals he had a big task with nationally ranked Tate Sailor of Mandan. We had a game plan that was going according to plan, until it wasn’t. Zane was leading 1-0 late into the second period where he would be thrown from neutral and pinned. Not the fairytale ending we wanted but he outperformed his seed and made the state finals to capstone his Senior Season.
