The Watford City Junior Gold hockey team picked up a win this past weekend as the Oilers downed the May-Port Ice Dawgs, 7-2.
Senior center Ted Ramage opened the scoring at 14:51 of the first period on a shorthanded goal for the Oilers. Ramage out-worked the May-Port defenseman and slid the puck past the Ice Dawgs’ netminder.
The Oilers wasted little time to add to their lead when senior winger Jon Dunn scored to put Watford City up by two just 7:15 into the contest. Erick Leiseth set Dunn up on the play. Dunn added his second of the game with 4:15 remaining in the first period connecting off a feed from Ramage to close out the first period scoring.
In the second period, the Oilers scored three goals, with the first coming off the stick of sophomore Rait Elliot. Dalton Wright set Elliot up with a nice feed and Elliot went high stick side for the Oilers goal. Also assisting on the play was Daniel Marmon.
Jon Dunn completed his hat trick at 8:55 as he converted a pretty pass from Ramage. Senior defenseman Cody Johnson put the Oilers up 6-0 when he uncorked a blistering slapshot from just inside the blueline.  Marmon and Erick Hellandsaas added assists on the play.
May-Port would get on the board with 1:36 left in the period when Ole Knutson wrapped in a goal past Quayde Shores.
But the Oilers answered that goal as Ramage scored unassisted to end the second period.
May-Port would add one goal seven minutes into the third period to close out the scoring.
Oilers’ goalie Quayde Shores kicked aside 23 shots, while the Oilers threw 39 shots at the May-Port net.
The Oilers travel to Grand Forks for a tournament this weekend.
