Nick Liebel capped off an outstanding high school golfing career as he was named the 2011 Senior Athlete of the Year in Class B golf.
Liebel, a three-time All State golfer, was honored with the state’s highest honor in Class B golf at the conclusion of this year’s tournament, which was played at the Crossroads Golf Course in Carrington on May 31 and June 1.
Liebel, who was the leader of the two-day tournament on Tuesday, finished in eighth place.
The highlight of Liebel’s tournament play was a hole-in-one on the the 156-yard No. 8 hole at CrossRoads Golf Course, using a pitching wedge and then following up with an eagle on No. 9 to give him a first day tally of 78.
The tournament was played under the worst of conditions as players had to compete in rain and winds.
After a stellar first day of play, Liebel struggled on the second day shooting a score of 80 to finish the tournament with a score of 158.
Chris Larsen was the next highest finisher for the Wolves as he carded scores of 93 and 79 for a two-day score of 172 to finish in 49th place.
Rounding out the scores for other Watford City golfers was Colter Maki with rounds of 97 and 86, Mitchell Liebel with rounds of 100 and 89, Alex Hansen with rounds of 102 and 92, and Beau Heiser with rounds of 107 and 91.
