Walleye pick up win over Glasgow

Watford City’s American Legion baseball team dropped a home game last Thursday to Velva before losing to Sidney and then downing Glasgow at the Glasgow Tournament.
The next action for the Walleye will be on July 15 when they host Washburn at 4 p.m. and then travel to Bottineau on July 18.

Velva 6, Walleye 2
Watford City gave up five runs in the top of the eighth inning as the Walleye fell to Velva, 6-2, on July 9.
The Walleye led Velva 1-0 after three innings of play, before the Aggies came back to tie the game, 1-1, in the top of the fourth inning.
After three scoreless innings, Velva blew the game open in the top of the eighth as the Aggies scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead with the Walleye scoring their final run in the bottom of the inning.
Velva out-hit the Walleye 10 to five.
Keegan Thompson took the loss on the mound for Watford City as he gave up six runs on 10 hits, while striking out seven batters.

Sidney 3, Walleye 1
Sidney jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back en route to a 3-1 win over Watford City in first round play of the Glasgow Tournament on July 10.
Watford City’s only score would come in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Brandon Roth double.
Andrew Sampsel took the loss for the Walleye as he gave up three runs on eight hits, while striking out nine batters.

Walleye 8, Glasgow 5
After trailing Glasgow, 2-0, after four innings of play, Watford City scored one run in the top of the fifth and then rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.
But Glasgow would score two runs in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Watford City would score three runs to take the 8-5 win.
Watford City out-hit Glasgow 13 to three in the game with Andrew Sampsel leading the Walleye in batting with two singles, a double and four RBIs.
Preston Milstead earned the win on the mound for the Walleye as he gave up five runs on three hits, while striking out eight batters.
