Walleye improve to 13-3

The Watford City American Legion baseball team improved its season record to 13-3 and 5-1 in league play this past week as the Walleye swept Ray in two games before splitting with Tioga. The Walleye then closed out its action last week taking two games from Crosby.
This week, the Walleye will be hosting the Williston “C” squad on Wednesday before traveling to Crosby on Wednesday, before traveling to Garrison on July 6 and to Sherwood on July 7.

Watford City swept Ray in two games on June 22 taking the first game 13-3 and then blasting the Jays 12-2 in the second game.
Blake Wold had a great day at the plate in the two-game series for Watford City as he went four for four with two doubles and a triple.
On the mound, James Neer picked up the win in the first game striking out six batters in five innings, while Ben Haugeberg got the win in the second game striking out six batters in three innings of work.
“We hit the ball pretty well against Ray,” stated Pat Spacher, Walleye head coach. “We did a good job of not getting ourselves out and being patient on offense.”
At the plate, Trey Jacobson was three for four with a double and two RBIs, Ben Haugeberg and Dillon Langerud were two for three.
In the second game, James Neer had a walk-off two-run homer, while Doug Rolfson, Reid Johnson, Blake Wold and Doug Norby were all one for one.

Tioga ended Watford City’s winning streak at 10 games as the Pirates knocked off the Walleye 10-2 in the first game of a double-header on June 23. But the Walleye bounced back taking the second game 13-4.
“Everything went Tioga’s way in the first game,” stated Spacher. “They had good pitching, defense and hitting. We didn’t hit well or play good defense.”
Doug Rolfson picked up the loss for the Walleye in the first game giving up ten runs on seven hits in six innings of work while Dillon Langerud struck out five batters while giving up four runs in the second game to earn the win.
In the first game, Trey Jacobson was one for two, while Doug Rolfson was one for three with an RBI and Ben Haugeberg was one for four with an RBI.
“We did a nice job of bouncing back to win the second game,” stated Spacher. “It was important to leave Tioga on a good note.”
In the second game, Nick Liebel was two for four at the plate with a double and two RBIs, Trey Jacobson was two for four with two RBIs, Ben Haugeberg was one for two with a double and one RBI, Reid Johnson was two for two with a double and two RBIs, James Neer was two for four with a double and three RBIs, Doug Nordby was one for three with an RBI, and Jayden Grotte was two for three with an RBI.

Watford City swept Crosby 10-5 and 12-1 in double-header action on June 24 to improve its season record to 13-3.
“Nick Liebel and Trey Jacobson were outstanding on the mound for us,” stated Spacher. “We hit the ball well all day and got a lot of production from the bottom of our batting order.”
In the first game, Liebel, who is now 4-0 on the season, struck out nine batters while giving up just five hits in seven innings of work. In the second game, Jacobson struck out eight batters and gave up four hits in four innings of pitching.
At the plate in the first game, Doug Rolfson was three for four, Doug Nordby was two for three with a double and one RBI, Dillon Langerud was two for three with a triple and one RBI, James Neer was one for four with three RBIs, and Trey Jacobson was two for three with three RBIs.
In the second game, Neer was two for two with two doubles and one RBI, Nordby was two for three with two RBIs, Rolfson was one for three with three RBIs, Liebel was one for two with one RBI, Jayden Grotte was two for two and Reid Johnson was one for one with two RBIs.
