The future of Wolves activities looks bright, with a new Activities Director set to take the helm for the 26-27 school year. McKenzie County Public School District (MCPS) officially announced that Mitch Lunde was hired as Activities Director starting July 1, 2026. Lunde, a powerhouse in North Dakota school administration, will make the jump from Minot Public Schools, where he has overseen a massive department of 70 varsity programs and 20 fine arts divisions since 2013.

Lunde comes with a proverbial trophy case of professional accolades: he was recently named the 2023-2024 NDIAAA State A Activities Director of the Year and stood as a national finalist for Athletic Director of the Year in 2025. Currently serving as the Vice President of the North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) Board of Directors, Lunde provides Watford City with an immediate “seat at the table” in state-level discussions. “I hope to bring a veteran voice from the west with the state-wide administrators and organizations,” Lunde said, noting his desire to improve the experience for all students in the Northwest region.
