Oilers skate past Crosby Comets

Watford City’s Junior Gold hockey team picked up a big win Saturday as the Oilers downed the Crosby Comets 4-2. Junior forward Jayden Grotte led the offensive attack as he had a hand in all the Oilers’ scoring.
Grotte opened the scoring at 7:57 when he slid home a rebound off the stick of Brandon Taylor. Bo Yesel also added an assist. Taylor and Grotte teamed up to put the Oilers up 2-0 two minutes later as Grotte slid a pass to Taylor who ripped it over the shoulder of Comet goalie, Knudson.
Crosby spoiled Kalden Heggen’s shutout bid at 14:04 of the second period on a long shot beating Heggen on the glove side.
Grotte would add to the Oilers’ lead at 13:29 of the third period beating Knudson on a low shot. Douglas Rolfson assisted on the play. Douglas Nordby closed out the Oilers scoring at 10:30 pounding home a loose puck to build the Oilers lead to 4-1. Grotte and Chris Larsen added assists.
Crosby would score with two seconds left in the game on a scrum in front of Heggen. Heggen turned aside 16 shots on the night.
The Oilers record in league is 5-4 with three games remaining. The next action is Feb. 19 and 20 in Fargo and May-Port.
