Ricki Lindley definitely likes the Bismarck Community Bowl when it comes to the triple jump.
Last week the W.C.H.S. senior set a new triple jump record at the Charlie Denton Relays with a leap of 37’3.5”. And then just one week later, Lindley shattered that record with a 38’1.5” leap that not only shattered her personal best effort, but also set a new school record.
“We lost a few meets due to the weather last week, but the training time was nice being able to work with the athletes,” stated Greg Bown, girls head coach. “But that training time proved to be helpful at Saturday’s Bismarck Kiwanis Meet where we saw some great performances from our athletes.
In addition to Lindley’s winning first in the triple jump, she also had a state-qualifying time in the 100 meter dash. Also placing in first and posting state-qualifying marks for the Wolves in Bismarck was Kayla Ogle in the 3,200 meter run and Mikka Haugeberg in the pole vault. Asha Smith also qualified for State in the 1,600 on Saturday.
“We had great performances by Asha Smith and Ricki Lindley,” stated Brown. “They have been great leaders for our team, and they are stepping up at the right time. Asha is pushing hard and leading a new group of distance runners to the front of the pack as both Ricki and Asha keep our team moving in the right direction.”
Overall, the Wolves girls team took sixth place at the Kiwanis Meet, which featured some of the state’s best Class A schools.
The boys varsity team also had a good showing in Bismarck on Saturday with a seventh place finish.
Connor Dennis improved his state-qualifying time, while other athletes got closer to their state-qualifying marks.
“We had guys at this meet that didn’t place, but are starting to improve and get better,” stated Dave Gumke, boys head coach. “Tanner Ponto added about 13’ to his best javelin throw and Ethan Long improved three feet in the shot put.”
The next meet for the Wolves will be  the Town Crier in Dickinson on Saturday.
