Watford City traveled well over 1,000 miles this week and played four intense postseason games. When all was said and done, they punched their ticket to the State Tournament.
Region 4 Quarterfinal
No. 2 Watford City 60,
No. 7 Beulah 29
Last Monday afternoon, Watford City won their first post-season game by defeating the seventh-seeded Beulah Miners at Standing Rock High School. Beulah held a brief 5-4 lead and kept it close for the first half. Once the Wolves got the lead up to double digits, they were able to prevent Beulah from making a run and the result was never in doubt. “Maybe we were a little rusty after not playing for a week,” said Watford City head coach, Tom Dwyer. “We played a little too undisciplined on defense and got too aggressive on too many possessions or just didn’t have enough communication and gave up some easy transition baskets in the first half. But we did settle down in the second half and played hard defense after that and got back in the groove.” The Wolves had the advantage in every statistical category and had four players score 10 or more points.
