Watford City 70,
Stanley 48

Watford City traveled to Stanley last Monday night and defeated the Blue Jays in a non-region matchup. The Wolves defense got them off to a great start and the offense got into gear after a slow start. “I was pleased with our defensive intensity throughout the whole game,” stated Watford City head coach, Tom Dwyer. “We still have some things to improve on, such as communicating as we transition from our press to quarter-court defense. But the overall effort from everyone was great.”

The box score revealed some eye-popping numbers. Watford City attempted a total of 86 field goals, converting on 27 of them. They forced 41 Stanley and scored 41 points off of those turnovers in this incredibly high-possession game. The Wolves also made 13 of their 18 free throw attempts. As a team, they grabbed 52 total rebounds, including 30 offensive rebounds.

“We didn’t shoot the best in the first half,” said Coach Dwyer. “Which is why I was happy with the defensive intensity as it did help us get us some transition layups and eventually we got more in rhythm. We did a good job of making extra passes in the third quarter especially which helped us go on a run.”
