Hayes pins his way to WDA regional championship title

Nivon Hayes was a force to be reckoned with as the Watford City junior pinned his way to the WDA championship title in the 285-pound weight class at the West Region Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 12.
But Hayes wasn’t the only Watford City wrestler who made it to the finals as Beau Matson, a 195-pound junior, pinned his first two opponents before losing a 7-2 decision in the title match, while Izaak Boekelman also made his way to the finals at 120 pounds before being pinned in the title match.
Hayes, Matson and Boekelman along with Stran Sorenson, Eli Leppell and Cash Fladland will be representing the Wolves at the North Dakota State Class A Wrestling Tournament at the Fargodome this Thursday and Friday.
