Cross Country teams take 5th at Region Meet

Watford City’s cross country teams are peaking at just the right time as the Wolves get ready for the State Cross Country Meet in Jamestown on Oct. 23.
And all of their conditioning showed this past Saturday as both the boys and girls varsity teams took fifth place at the Region Meet in Bowman.
Hayes Feilmeier led the boys team with a seventh place finish with a time of 18:03.72 to make the All-Region Team, while Kade Ross was the top place finisher on the girls team coming in 21st with a time of 17:41.13.
Kristen Stenehjem, who finished in 24th place for the girls team with a time of 17:47.50, was named the Region Senior Athlete of the Year.
“Kristen is hard working and has been a solid runner for our team,” stated Brown. “She is very deserving of this honor as she has been a great leader and she has been with our program since the beginning.”
Also placing in the boys division was Curtis Lohse, 30th, 20:12.78; Dustin Kleppen, 32nd, 20.24.98; Dillon Smith, 33rd, 20.29.62; John Meuchel, 42nd, 21.33.02; Logan Gumke, 50th, 22.07.62; Reid Brown, 51st, 22.15.06; Alex Hansen, 53rd, 22.23.88; Casey Bolman, 59th, 23.34.00; and Colt Nicholson, 64th, 24.30.42.
Also placing in the girls division was Addison Sundeen, 25th, 17:50.72; Bessie Schmitz, 27th, 17:51.66; Lea Arndt, 32nd, 18:07.77; Jayme Johnson, 34th, 18:24.97; Kara Wold, 35th, 18:28.18; Tara Loomer, 39th, 18:43.62; Hollie Griggs, 47th, 19:17.76; and Sarah Newton, 75th, 24:30.78.
“Our season is quickly coming to an end with the State eet on Oct. 23 in Jamestown,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves head coach. “We have passed the hard part of the training and we are switching to trying to have more fun on our runs. We are going to more quick running with shorter miles. The kids are working hard and are looking to compete well at State.”
In the junior varsity boys division, the Wolves took fifth place with James Dever placing 11th with a time of 14.37.67.
