Cowboys defeat Wolves in Overtime

For the second time this year, Watford City mounted a comeback to force overtime against a Region 4 opponent. And for the second time this year, the Wolves lost in the extra frame. This time it was a road game against the Killdeer Cowboys. This game was much lower-scoring than the overtime home game against Hazen earlier this year. The Wolves led briefly in the first quarter at 7-5, but an 8-0 run Killdeer gave the Cowboys a lead they wouldn’t relinquish until the fourth quarter.
“Our defense really picked up in the second quarter and we were switching defenses and trying to keep them off balance a bit,” said Watford City head coach, Justin Hager. “I felt we rebounded the ball a lot better and gave ourselves more opportunities on second chance points. Our guys are going to fight and try to make every game into a rock fight. Bringing that mentality to every game is important and focusing on the next play and not the past is important. We started off a big sluggish and sloppy, but I am proud of our guys for how we responded in the second quarter. We didn’t shoot well, so to be in the game while not shooting well was a blessing, but also we did a good job on Jaxon Reese for the most part in forcing him to make hard two’s and contest everything on them. I thought we were also more aggressive going to the basket and forcing the action. We are so much better when we are aggressive.”
