Blue Jays roll over Wolves

Watford City struggled against one of the best football teams in the region last Friday evening as the Wolves fell to the Stanley Blue Jays 29-0.
The Blue Jays powerful offense easily handled the Wolves as Stanley  handed Watford City its first Region III loss of the season.
“Even though we lost to Stanley, we are still in second place in Region III and with a win over Williams County on Friday, Watford City will clinch a home field game in the playoffs,” states Fred Fridley, Wolves’ head coach.
While Fridley was disappointed with Watford City’s showing against the defending State Class A football champions, he did see some bright spots that the Wolves can continue to build on.
“In the first half, we could not establish anything offensively and gave Stanley good field position,” stated Fridley. “And they took advantage of it, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions.”
But overall, Fridley was happy with the way the team’s defensive line played against Stanley.
“Offensively, Austin Garmann ran for 97 yards on nine carries,” stated Fridley. “We played much better in the second half allowing only three points, and on offense, we ran the ball much better. What is missing is our passing game.”
With Watford City’s regular season drawing to a close, Fridley says the team needs to go out and establish itself on both offense and defense.
“We are a better team than we showed against Stanley,” states Fridley. “We’re going to have to be ready when we play Williams County.”
According to Fridley, Williams County is a solid team with a good running game and a defense that has played very well this season.
“This week will be a big test for us to see how we respond after a loss,” stated Fridley.
