Tyler G. Swensrud

Tyler G. Swensrud

Tyler Garret Swensrud, 31, of Watford City, N.D., passed away on Jan. 6, 2024, at the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City, N.D.
Tyler arrived on Nov. 6, 1992, the son of Garret Swensrud and Janelle Ceynar. It was the first day of Deer Season, an important holiday in the Swensrud family. His dad thought he had the trophy that year - his son Tyler!
Tyler was raised by his father in Watford City and at only 8 years old, his dad suffered a traumatic brain injury. Tyler came to live with Nannie, Grandpa, his dad and his uncles. He was always surrounded by friends. Skateboarding was his favorite hobby, but hunting, fishing and football with his dad, uncles, and friends came in a close second. He loved the Green Bay Packers and WWE. Life was busy.
During Tyler’s junior and senior high school years, he took care of his dad. Tyler was heartbroken when Garret died in a vehicle accident. Tyler met Codi Clark that summer and they started a life together. Tyler and Codi had twin sons Eli and Trey. He loved his little boys. It was the happiest time in his life. Tragedy struck his life again when his son Eli drowned while he was at work. Losing his dad and son was more than he could bear.
Tyler met and married Kylie Bodine and together they had two sons, Ayden and Teagan. He loved all four of his boys. They were the light of his life.
He had several different jobs, but his favorites were Tractor Tech at John Deere in Jamestown, N.D., and Assistant General Manager at LA Fitness in West Palm Beach, Fla. When Covid hit, the gym closed, and Tyler came home. Grief took hold of his life and he could not cope. He tried many times to get sober, but the disease of addiction controlled his life.
His kindness and compassion touched the lives of many people like him who were struggling. Pray for all who have an addiction. Life can be a challenge for them. He was proud of his heritage - Norwegian and Native American.
Tyler is survived by three sons, Trey, Ayden and Teagan; his brother, Jayden Vaupel; grandmother, Valerie Swensrud (Nannie); grandfather, Chuck Ceynar (Jeanette); uncles, Darin (Charlotte) Swensrud, Brock (Jami) Swensrud and Marc Ceynar; cousins, Zane, Elizabeth, Brennan, and Rylen Swensrud; along with numerous other beloved great-aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his son, Eli; father, Garret; and grandfather, Dale Swensrud.
Memorial services for Tyler G. Swensrud were held at 11a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City. Minister Matthew Rolfson officiated.
