Travis Olson, 53, of Grassy Butte, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at the Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck with his family by his side. Travis was born Oct. 10, 1970, in Gillette, Wyo., to Judy (Rhodes) and Charles Olson. He was raised by Judy and Randy Perry and Charles (Marilyn-stepmom) Olson.
Travis attended Watford City High School where he was active in football, wrestling and FFA. He graduated in 1989 and joined the United States Navy. He was part of the North Dakota Centennial Special Recruit Company.
Travis was on active duty until 1994 with an E6 Rank. He served on USS HEWITT and USS CAPECOD as an Interior Communication Electrician. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserve until 1996. While Stationed in San Diego, Calif., he met and married Francisca Briceno Aug. 12, 1994, and went on to have a son, Shiloah.
While in the Navy they were able to travel in live in different places such as: Chula Vista, Calif., Yokosuka, Japan and Guam where they lived for 2 years. After both Travis and Frankie were discharged from the Navy, they lived in various places eventually settling in Grassy Butte, N.D. Travis was employed at McKenzie County Correctional Facility as an Administrator.
Travis was an outdoorsy person and enjoyed deer hunting, pheasant hunting, fishing, ice-fishing, and his dogs. He loved spending time with family and friends, but he especially loved spending time with his son Shiloah.
Travis is survived by his wife, Francisca; son, Shiloah; parents, Judy & Randy, and Marilyn; brother, Leif (Amber); sisters, Jennifer (Fidel) and Lisa (Jeff); nephews, Aaron, Charlie, Oliver and Randy; niece, Mikala, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Travis is preceded in death by his father, Charles J. Olson (1994), grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral service for Travis was held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church Watford City. Pastor Garrett Gudmunsen officiatied. Travis was laid to rest in the Bethel Melland Cemetery in Cartwright, N.D. Visitation for Travis was held on Monday Oct. 23, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fulkerson Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Watford City, N.D.
