Shirley Carroll
Shirley Rachel Carroll, 79, of Aurora, Colo., passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, at Denver Hospice.
Shirley was born February 8, 1936, in Watford City, N.D., to Aleck and Rachel Hartel. She attended grade school in Shafer, N.D., through the eighth grade, and then attended Watford City High School, graduating in 1954.
She married Patrick Raymond Carroll on September 22, 1956. They had their first two children, Cynthia Rae and Randal Scott, in Williston, N.D.
In 1967, they moved their family to Westhope, N.D., as Patrick continued his career with Koch Industries, Inc. Their third child, Jason Patrick, was born in Minot, N.D. In 1971, they moved back to Watford City, then Duncan, Okla., in 1972, and established their home in Aurora, Colo., in 1973.
Cynthia Rae Carroll married James Renwick Barth, and they had two children, and reside in San Diego, Calif. Randal Scott Carroll resides in Lakewood, Colo., with his wife, Stefani Diane Carns. They have three children. Jason Patrick Carroll married Jennifer Helen Honemann and they reside in Aurora, Colo., with their two sons.
Shirley was a woman of strength, wit, and graciousness. She was happiest spending time with her husband, siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had many friends from high school, work, and neighbors in Aurora, Colo.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick Carroll; three children, Cynthia, Randal, and Jason. Her five siblings; Duane (Lavonne) Hartel of Williston, N.D., Delores (Jack) Zingleman of Seattle, Wash., Sharon (Dwayne) Allen of Tulsa, Okla., LeMoine (Clarice) Hartel of Watford City N.D., and Patricia (Glen) Skoglund of Watford City, N.D. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, six grandchildren, and three great-grandsons. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Aleck and Rachel Hartel, and grandson, Daniel Barth.
A memorial service will be held on July 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at CrossPoint Wesleyan Church in Watford City, N.D., with Pastor Jeff Ruggles officiating. A lunch will be provided following the service, as well as a graveside service.
