Shane Akovenko

Shane Ernest Akovenko, 37, Bismarck, died Jan. 25, 2012, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Shane had several different illnesses and died from complications of his diabetes.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. MT at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Grassy Butte, N.D., with Rev. Ray Reinke officiating. Burial was at the Grassy Butte Cemetery.
Shane was born on May 19, 1974, in Dickinson, N.D., to Ernest and Karla (Anderson) Akovenko. He received his grade school education at Grassy Butte School, and graduated from high school in Watford City, N.D., in 1992.
He was a fan of Agatha Christie in high school, and in more recent years, he enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, truck and car magazines, of which he could not throw one magazine away.
Shane enjoyed eating pizza, especially pepperoni. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved driving his 1978 Ford Mustang II wherever it would take him and Lance. Shane considered all of his roommates his friends.
He is survived by his parents, Ernie and Karla Akovenko of Grassy Butte; one brother, Lance (Janis) Akovenko of Minneapolis, Minn.; two dearly loved nieces who loved their “Unc,” McKenna Akovenko of Dickinson, N.D., and Sienna Akovenko of Minneapolis, Minn.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins from North Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin, Utah, and Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
The honorary bearers at the funeral are all of Shane’s family and friends.
