Roberta Stompro

Roberta “Bobbie” Stompro, 68, of Beulah, formerly of Watford City, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Medcenter One Health Systems, Bismarck.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. CDT, Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah, with Pastor Kris Nyman officiating.
Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. CDT, Aug. 10, 2012, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Bobbie was born on March 24, 1944, to Oliver and Alice (Olson) Running in Powers Lake, N.D. She was raised and educated in Columbus, N.D., graduating from Columbus High School. Bobbie attended college in Fargo, N.D., to become a beautician. She moved to Bowbells and worked at a beauty shop and later worked in Lignite and Watford City, both in N.D. On April 7, 1968, she married Mertie Stompro in Columbus, N.D. Together they lived in Watford City.
In 1974, she started a daycare and over the years took care of numerous children in the Watford City area from their infancy to grade school age.
Mertie moved into the nursing home in Watford City in 2009. In May of 2011, Bobbie moved to Hazen, N.D., to be closer to her family. In 2011, she entered the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, N.D., where she has since lived.
Bobbie was an excellent cook and baker. She was hired by many to bake for them. She loved to play cards, especially pinochle and enjoyed spending time on the computer. Family was very important to Bobbie and she loved spending time with them. She was very kind and giving, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary.
Bobbie is survived by her husband, Mertie Stompro, of Watford City; one son, Mertie Jr. ( Anna Trader), of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one daughter, Melissa (Wade) Greenhalgh, of Olathe, Colo.; two grandchildren, Kylie and Gage Harrington; her mother, Alice Kessler, of Beulah; one brother, Randy (Deb) Running, of Mesquite, Nev.; five sisters, Vicki (Vern) Oakum, of Sumter, S.C., Beryl (Jim) Dschaak, Beth (Greg) Loken, both of Craig, Colo., Denice (Myron) Mutzenberger, of Hazen, Tami Running (John Pineau), of Regina, Saskatchewan; one step-sister, Ardella (Jerome) Miller, of Hazen; one step-brother, Norman (Kathy) Kessler, of Fessenden, N.D.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Running; step-father, Otto Kessler; one niece and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to the American Diabetes Association in Bobbie’s name, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, Va. 22311.
