Odin Heim

Odin Heim

Odin Merdith Heim, 76, of Watford City, N.D. passed away on Feb. 24, 2023, at McKenzie County Healthcare Systems.
Odin was born March 6, 1946, to Ole and Martha (Wherley) Heim in Watford City, N.D. He attended the Williams school and graduated from Mandaree High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy specializing as a gas turbine engine mechanic. His time in the Navy took him to places all over the world. When given the opportunity, he would commonly start out many conversations with “In the Navy…” He was very proud of his service and in 1986, he retired from the U.S.N. as a Chief Petty Officer. Odin moved to Florida immediately after retiring and began working as a machinist for Northrop-Grumman in St. Augustine, Fla. During his time in Florida, he was very active in fishing clubs, St. Augustine Lodge, and SCUBA diving as a PADI Dive Master. Odin’s pride and joy during this time in his life was his dog, Misty. Misty was an over excited fun-loving Pitbull with a heart of gold.
Wanting to get back to North Dakota, he decided to move back to be closer to family. While in Watford City, Odin continued his love for mechanics and worked for Heggen Equipment, a small engine repair shop, and for McKenzie County weed control. His last job before retiring was with Rink Construction as a mechanic. In retirement, Odin enjoyed gardening and pursuing his passion for fishing. He especially loved to ice fish with friends and family at Tobacco Gardens. During the past couple years, Odin cherished time spent with his two great-granddaughters. He had been a resident of the Good Shepherd Home for a short time before his death.
Odin was the third of three children - he loved and was loved by his sibling, Marcelline (Delmar) Rink of Huntley, Mont. He also leaves behind three sons, Scott Heim (Minot, N.D.), Brad (Barb) Heim (Bismarck, N.D.), Marty (Lisa) Heim (Salt Lake City, Utah); and daughter, Kimberly Heim (Bakersfield, Calif.); wife, Vicki Heim; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Martha Heim; his brother, Orville Heim; and nephews, Roger and Dean Rink.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at the Good Shepherd Home - Memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Home in Odin’s name.
