Melvin E. Anderson

Melvin E. Anderson, 90, of Williston, N.D., passed away at Trinity Homes in Minot, N.D., on Friday evening, Aug. 14, 2015.
Melvin was born on Oct. 2, 1924,  to E.G. and Anna (Ackerman) Anderson on the family homestead in McKenzie County, N.D.
Melvin’s family moved to Williston when he was a teen. He graduated from Williston High School in 1942.
On Sept. 10, 1943, Melvin enlisted in the U.S. Army; he fought in World War II as a belly gunner on a bomber. He was based in Foggia, Italy and had 216 combat hours in 50 combat missions. On Oct. 4, 1945 Melvin was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Upon his discharge, Melvin returned to Williston. He was hired by the railroad, first, the Great Northern, then Burlington Northern. He retired after 28 years of service.
Melvin met Dorothy Lou Parker and the couple were united in marriage on Aug. 17, 1971. From that union, he acquired not only a wife, but two daughters, their husbands and grandchildren.
Melvin loved music, especially old country. He sang and loved to play his guitar.
Preceding Melvin in death were his wife, Dorothy L. Anderson; step-daughter, Cheryl LaRae Storoe; his parents; and his siblings, Arlen Anderson, David Anderson, Grace Bolken, and Vera Bolken.
Surviving Melvin are his step-daughter, Valerie (Larry) Nygaard; grandchildren, Kurt (Tara) Nygaard, Kayla (Matt) Trotter, Kalynna Storoe, and Krista (Barry) Scalf; great-grandchildren, Danielle Gorde, Ryley Nygaard, Jacob Nygaard, Abygail Scheafer, Dalton Scheafer, and Brennan Schwartzenberger.
His Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19th at Cornerstone First Baptist Church in Williston, N.D. Rev. Will Page officiated. Interment in Riverview Cemetery followed the service.
