Lyle Nielsen

Pastor Lyle Robert Nielsen, 84, Moose Lake, Minn., died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at St. Lukes Hospital, Duluth, Minn.
He was born April 4, 1925, in Duluth, Minn., the son of Charles and Jalma (Anderson) Nielsen.
Lyle was a graduate of Cloquet High School and attended Concordia, Moorhead. Lyle graduated from Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, and was ordained a Pastor in the American Lutheran Church (ALC), on June 11, 1960. He served congregations in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa from 1960 to 1987. He was the Pastor at Banks and Garden Lutheran Churches from 1963-1967. In 1987, Lyle retired to Moose Lake and continued to serve congregations part-time in Moose Lake and surrounding communities.
He married the love of his life, Marlene Ulvi, on June 18, 1960, in Cloquet. Lyle enjoyed spending time at the lake, reading, golfing, bowling and following the Minnesota Twins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene Nielsen; two brothers, Lester and Berdis Nielsen; and one sister, Charlotte Nielsen.
He is survived by one daughter, Tonda (Scott) Ried of St. Francis; three sons, Ross (Tonya) Nielsen of Rembrandt, Iowa, Robb (Michelle) Nielsen of Westminster, Colo., Ryan (Heidi) Nielsen of Apple Valley, Minn.; one brother, Walt (Norma) Nielsen of Chetek, Wisc., 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including special nephgew, Kermit Nielsen; and special extended family members, Kay and Gerald Nelson.
