Lula Kummer

Lula H. Kummer, 87, most recently of Minot, N.D., formerly of Watford City, N.D., died Thursday morning, Feb. 3, 2011, at the Trinity Nursing Home in Minot. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Watford City. Interment will be held in the spring at Sandstone Cemetery near Keene, N.D. Friends may share memories and condolences with the family on Fulkerson’s website, www.fulkersons.com.
Lula Helen Kummer was born March 31, 1923, in McKenzie County, North Dakota, to John and Martha (Veeder) Tiegs. She was a sister to four brothers and six sisters. She was raised and educated in McKenzie County, and was baptized in the Lutheran Faith.
She married Ervin Kummer in 1940. Together they had seven children: Maverly, Dianne, Barbara and Eileen, Gary, and two stillborn sons. The couple continued to live in the Watford City area. Lula enjoyed working for the neighbors, ironing clothes, working around their houses, and helping out any way she could. She worked at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home for many years doing laundry. Ervin died in 1981.
Lula spent her whole life taking care of her family and everyone in her life, until she couldn’t take care of them anymore. She always put others before herself, and would do whatever needed to be done to help them.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting, and sewing stuffed animals for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had a meal or fresh baked goods for anyone who stopped by for coffee.
She was a devoted Christian and was always involved in Ladies Aid and church activities. Lula never turned down a game of whist and taking outings on the bus at her ‘New Home’ (Trinity Homes), which became her new home and family that she dearly loved. She will always be her family’s Guardian Angel.
Lula is survived by her daughters, Maverly Brugh of Minot, Dianne (Ron) Sparrow of Billings, Mont., Barbara (Jim) Fraley of Minot, and Eileen (Mitch) Mallon of Lindenhurst, Ill.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Alva Joy Larson, Hattie Haugan, Delores Denzine and Elaine Mead; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha; her husband, Ervin; son, Gary Kummer; grandson, Robbie Kummer, and step-grandson, Jason; son-in-law, Eugene Brugh, Jr.; brothers, Lyle, Earl, Everett and Vernon Tiegs; sisters, Lorna Stanford and Mildred Alton; and two stillborn sons.
