John “Johnny Joe” was born on July 26, 1950, in Sidney, Mont., to Joseph and Frances (Schmitz) Prevost. He grew up and attended schools in Lambert, graduating with the class of 1969. After graduation, Johnny worked with his father on the family farm and ranch.
Johnny and Patti met while cruising around in his green 1969 Roadrunner in Sidney, Mont. They married on June 20, 1970, at the St. Matthew Catholic Church, and made their life together at the family farm in Lambert. They had three wonderful children, Bryan, Leah and Michelle, whom they loved dearly and were so proud of and close to. Johnny’s number one passion was spending time and taking drives with his best friend, Patti. His kids’ and grandkids’ (Renee’, Shane, Julian and Evan) eyes would always light up when papa and nana pulled up to pick them up for a drive or go to lunch. John was a very hard worker and left no stone unturned.
Johnny was an avid fisherman, hunter and aviator, which were passed down to him from his dad, Joe. He was so proud that his son, Bryan, carried on this aviation legacy and the restoration of his beloved Super Cub. He always looked forward to jumping on his Harley motorcycle and taking off down the highway with his great bunch of friends. He enjoyed watching Barrett-Jackson car auctions at night and would have been so excited to know his son and sons-in-law were planning on taking him to Arizona in January to actually see the auction. It was going to be a surprise birthday present to him. His other hobbies and interests included snowmobiling and coyote hunting during the winter months.
Johnny served on many committees throughout his life. He was a member of the Lambert Fire Department Board, ASCS Board, Parish Council, Lambert Stockcar Association, Montana Pilots Association and 4th of July Committee, to name a few. He was the first to start the Lambert Airplane Ball Drop. Bryan continues this tradition now, to the delight of all the kids and adults at the 4th of July celebration.
Johnny died on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at his farm in Lambert. He left us too soon, and will be dearly missed by everyone. We always did and will keep telling him, “We love you to the bits!”
Johnny is survived by his wife, Patti Prevost, Lambert; son, Bryan (fiancé - Cassie) Prevost, Lambert; two daughters, Leah (Rodney) Cross, Alexander, N.D., and Michelle (Tony) Fisher, Williston, N.D.; sisters, Mary Frances Dillon, Wolf Point, Mont., and Cecilia (Kevin) Martin, Sterling, Colo.; four grandchildren, Reneé, Shane, and Julian Cross, and Evan Fisher; and his nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Dean; and his nephew, Dennis.
