Joann Green

Joann Norma Ohnsager Green, 86, of Williston, N.D., passed away  to be with her lord on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at the Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston.
Joann was born at home in Rawson, N.D., on March 30, 1930, to Selmer Invold and Glenna Louise Rud Ohnsager. She was baptized June 6, 1930, at the Rawson Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander, N.D.
Joann started her education in Rawson until moving to Alexander with her parents in 1939. While attending high school in Alexander, she worked with the school paper, “The Comet,” played on the girls basketball team, and worked at the Ohnsager General Store as a soda jerk. Her college education included a year at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and a year at Minot State Teachers College.
She began working at the American State Bank in Williston, N.D., in 1950. On December 29, 1950, she married Doyle Lawrence Green, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander, N.D. They resided in Williston for the remainder of their lives, even though they maintained and operated a farm in McKenzie County. She kept busy playing in a couple of Bridge Clubs, bowling, serving as a 4-H assistant leader, and holding various offices in the TOPS ND 48 club. In Later years, she was very active within Our Redeemers Lutheran Church being part of the Quilting Ladies and serving as a Deacon. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She presented quilts to each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as numerous others. She took pride in presenting denim quilts made by the Church quilting ladies to the high school graduates who were members of the Church.
She took great joy in watching the growth and development of her family. She is survived by daughters, Kari (Scott) Wiley of Chambersburg, Pa.; and Jan (Brian) Forsberg of Williston; four grandsons, Adam (Allison) Wiley of Morris, Ill., Michael (Kat Kolumban) Wiley of Champaign, Ill., Justin (Natasha) Thorlaksen of San Antonio,Texas, and Ross Forsberg of Fargo, N.D.; great-grandsons, Andrew Wiley and Aden Howcroft; great-granddaughters, Stacyn Thorlaksen, Layla Thorlaksen, and Bella Howcroft; and adopted granddaughter Kari (Steve) Zeier and their children, Grace, Nora, and Finn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Selmer and Glenna Ohnsager; husband, Doyle Green; and son Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Our Redeemers Kitchen Renovation Fund.
Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Williston. Rev. Steve Lundblom and Rev. Morris Kirchhof officiated and the burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.
