George Wahus

George B. Wahus, 94, of Callahan, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 16, 2013.
George was born on Nov. 28, 1918, in Charleson, N.D. to Magnus and Gina Wahus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Vernice; son, Roger (Penny) Wahus of Minot, N.D.; daughter, Eileen (Terry) Van Fossen, of Callagan, Fla.; Sister, Anna (Dan) Rodgers of Fishers, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and one cousin, Lynn Wahus. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Irey, six brothers and one sister.
He and his wife resided in Callahan for the past 20 years. He worked as a finish carpenter while residing in Minot, N.D., including building the Minot AFB housing, worked at Winn Dixie in Hilliard from 2002-2009.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Minot and First United Methodist Church in Callahan. He volunteered at Trinity Hospital in Minot and St. Vincent’s Hospital, Jacksonville, with 1,500 hours of volunteer time. He loved his family, especially watching his great-grandchildren play. He was always willing to help anyone.
Memorial services were held at First United Methodist Church of Callahan, Aug. 19, 2013. Pastor Sue Corley officiated.
