Eugene Calkins

Memorial services for Eugene Leroy Calkins, 71, of Anchorage, Alaska, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Legacy Funeral Home, Bragaw Chapel in Anchorage, Alaska.
Eugene Leroy Calkins was born Jan. 7, 1941, east of Watford City, N.D., and died March 14, 2012, in Wasella, Alaska. He was buried with Full Honors in Anchorage on March 30, 2012.
The seventh sibling of 14 children born to Wallace Calkins and Glady (Maloney) Calkins, he enlisted in the armed forces in 1959 and was Honorably Discharged in 1962 with a letter of commendation and Parachutist Badge SP4(4) E4 Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He also completed FA Radar Operation Maintenance in 1960.
Eugene Leroy Calkins received his GED and two Associate of Arts degrees from the Anchorage Community College in Boiler Operation Maintenance and Child Psychology.
He married Susan Sullivan on April 24, 1969, and worked for the Anchorage School District as a school bus driver from 1971 until 2001, when he retired.
He is survived by daughter, Easter (Mark) Hosen, six grandchildren, five sisters, Jessie, Madeline, Frances, Oma, Maryanne and two brothers, Everette and Arnold. He is preceded in death by both parents, three brothers and three sisters.
