Doris Fisketjon

Doris Fisketjon, 85, a longtime Williston, N.D., resident died at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Williston surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. Pastor Kay Reeb officiated and interment was at Riverview Cemetery in Williston.
Doris Bernice Nelson was born May 21, 1927, the first child to Andrew and Asbjorg (Lyderson) Nelson on the Nelson farm near Arnegard, N.D. She was educated in country schools and graduated from Arnegard High School in 1946. After high school graduation, she moved to Spokane, Wash., to bless a family as their nanny. Also while living in Spokane, she attended and received her license from cosmetology school.
Doris was united in marriage to Joseph Fisketjon in Idaho and to this union five children were born.
The couple resided in Spokane, Wash., where their first child was born and then returned to Watford City, N.D., where they farmed and she worked part-time in the Leiseth Funeral Home. While living in Watford City, their second and third children were born. They then made their home in Ray, N.D., where they owned and operated Ray Farm Supply and Joe’s Food Market. Hard work was second nature for Doris and she was always serving the needs of others before herself. Their last two children were born while they lived in Ray.
Upon Joseph’s retirement, they moved the family to Williston where Doris worked as head-cook at the Williston Junior High for 25 years. Doris devoted herself to the care of her family throughout her life. She was selfless and generous to a fault.
Doris was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and their women’s groups. She enjoyed rosemaling, cake decorating, making lefsa, crocheting and upholstery work. She had an incredible green thumb, everything she planted grew large and thrived. With all of her activity, her first love still remained her children and grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her children and grandchildren, Janet Shipman of Minot and her children Tasha Buran and Collin Shipman; David (Luanna) Fisketjon and their children Jake Fisketjon, Paige Fisketjon; Jonathon (Lisa) Aisenbrey, Shanna Johnson, and Jacob Aisenbrey; Mary Jo (Ron) Neubauer and their children Holand (Danielle) Neubauer and Chantel Neubauer; Judy (Clyde) Vinger and their children Cami (Dustin) Morgan, Cristi (Jeremy) Wente, Cari (Benjie) Foss, CJ Vinger and Cory Vinger; and John (Michelle) Fisketjon and their children Andrew, Justin, Shelby and Darby Fisketjon all of Williston, N.D.; 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; brothers, Neil (Maxine) Nelson of Arnegard, N.D. and Marvin (Stella) Nelson of Groveland, Fla.; sisters, Lyla Tweet of Fargo, N.D., Arlis (Gerald) Fritsvold of Chaska, Minn., and Betty Bartolomei of Grand Forks, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
